I know someone who has a big heart shaped birthmark right above their knee. It is about 3" by 2". It has a long purple vein running through it. This really upsets her, especially when she wears shorts. Any ideas on what causes them and can they be removed by any means currently?

The cause of most birthmarks is unknown. Most birthmarks are not inherited. Many folk tales and myths exist about the causes of birthmarks, but none of these stories have been proven to explain the true causes of birthmarks. Most vascular birthmarks are not due to difficulties or problems that happen to the mother during Pregnancy, nor are they inherited. Research is presently underway to identify the exact etiology of vascular birthmarks.
There are two major categories of birthmarks: pigmented and red.

Red birthmarks can range from tiny, pink dots to large, deep-red marks.
Pigmented birthmarks are areas of Skin where the color is different from the color of the rest of the Skin.

Kinds of Birthmark Removal
There are different ways that a birthmark can be removed, depending upon its type, size, location and other factors.

Laser therapy: Lasers are used to treat birthmarks that are close to the surface of the Skin, such as port-wine stains. This method can be performed at any age. During treatment, short bursts of laser light are aimed at the birthmark in order to shrink it or cause it to stop growing. Multiple visits may be necessary to achieve optimal results. Laser therapy may also be used for hemangioma, however it is not used to treat cases where it is found on an internal organ, or deep within the Skin.
Surgery: This method is used when other non-surgical treatments have not worked. A hemangioma that is large, or found on an internal organ also requires surgery and general anesthesia.
Please note that sometimes, medication is enough to treat certain types of birthmarks and you should consult with a physician about which method will work best for your needs.

It sounds like a Port-Wine Stain which is a vascular malformation of capillary blood vessels in the deeper layers of the Skin. It typically starts out pink, but as the child matures, turns darker red or purple. Most often, a port-wine stain appears on the face and neck, but it can affect other areas of the body. The size of a port-wine stain can vary from very small to quite large.

This lesion is a permanent birthmark, which doesn't decrease in size over time. In fact, it usually develops an irregular, pebbled surface and some swelling as the child grows. These physical changes of the port-wine stain, along with its cosmetic appearance, can cause both medical problems and emotional stress for the child.
Laser therapy is the usual treatment of choice.

I am not sure what causes birthmarks, but I have seen some pretty severe birthmarks virtually disappear when the young lady (in this case) took an all natural Dietary supplement based on a new technology called glyconutrients.

Glyconutrients are the nutrients Science has discovered that cover our cells. They provide cell to cell communication -- tells the body what it needs, ie. to be fed, to be cleansed, to be protected, to be repaired, etc... When all these nutrients are complete, we have health. When they are incomplete, we don't . This includes abnormalities on our bodies, such as birthmarks.

We don't get the nutrients in our Foods anymore because they are picked green, killed with pesticides, poor farming practices, etc... So, we have to get them in a supplement.

These particular nutrients are in a supplement, but not sold over the counter, but they are sold only through individual distributors. . Just email me if you want me to get you in touch with a someone I know that is a Rep. They could consult with you both on what is the best.

It is truly amazing what the body can do when it gets the right nutrients!

Hope this helps!
